Rocky Mountain Law Enforcement Federal Credit Union, once known as the Denver Police Federal Credit Union, was established in 1938 and initially served the officers of the Denver Police Department. The chief of police was August Henebath, there were 412 officers on the force and the starting annual salary for a patrolman was $1,740. The
credit union was located in a small office at Police Headquarters and was staffed by one of the members of the Board of Directors. At the end of that year, the credit union had 161 members, share deposits of $5,779, outstanding loans of $5,194, and cash in the bank of $634.

Beginning in 1988, the Credit Union expanded the field of membership to include employees of the Aurora Police Department. Numerous other law enforcement agencies were added as requests to serve agencies were made.

In 2002, to better serve law enforcement agencies around the Denver and Metro area, the Credit Union changed its name to Rocky Mountain Law Enforcement Federal Credit
Union.

Products and services at RMLEFCU have kept pace with and often exceeded those offered in the financial service market place. Additionally in 2006, the credit union was granted a TIP Charter for Protective Services in a 16 metro county area, and later in 2014, the credit union was approved to serve members in the State of Colorado.
