CIO helps guide and develop the allocations, investment objectives, policies and asset allocation for firm model portfolios.  CIO will lead the investment committee and build a consensus on the portfolio investment options.  Furthermore, the CIO will share ideas as it relates to company vision and growth initiatives.  The CIO will work with the firm’s director of research to ensure proper due diligence and ongoing research of existing models and potential additions.  The CIO will work with the director of research to present the model return results and any suggested changes to the end advisors on a quarterly basis.  The CIO will work with trading and operations to ensure the best practice of trading the firm’s model portfolios.  The CIO must be a collaborative leader in working with the research and operational teams.  The CIO must be able to articulate the portfolio construction internally, as well as communicate and market the firm’s strategy to the firm’s advisors, clients and potential clients.


  • Design investment portfolios which reflect company goals.
  • Identify where to invest and allocate funds and make changes according to market conditions.
  • Diligent in identifying and reducing risks to company portfolios.
  • Communicate with firm’s advisors on portfolio strategies
  • Involved in firm marketing endeavors through different mediums. 
  • Works closely with the director of research in endeavoring to minimize risk while maximizing return.
  • Where it pertains, coordinate and monitor portfolios in a tax sensitive manner.
  • Create video synopsis of investment committee meeting results.

CIO Personal Trading Guidelines and Best Practices:

  • Prior approval from compliance on all transactions indefinitely.
  • May not take positions opposite of what is being recommended.
  • Update compliance of any material changes in all investment holdings.
  • Require investments to be held for at least 60 days.
  • All trades, not buying or selling a model, will be reviewed by the Director of Research prior to implementation.  Compliance will be included on emails.
  • Additional trading module will be included in each year’s continuing education.


  • BS/BA college degree in finance, economics, or a related field.
  • Chartered Financial Analyst desired. CFP in addition is a plus.
  • 7+ years’ investment analyst experience.
  • Analytical thinking skills with ability to pay close attention to detail, be organized and multi-task on a variety of projects.
  • Ability to communicate complex portfolio construction and management in simple, easy to understand terms.
  • Proficiency in a Windows/PC work environment, specifically MS Office.
  • High degree of honesty and integrity; ability to adhere to and be a model of HMA’s Guiding Principles.
  • Advanced skills in Excel
