Electronics Technician

Pure Watercraft is creating revolutionary electric boat propulsion to ensure a future where boating will be clean, quiet, and powerful.  As we prepare our factory for commercial launch, we are looking for a highly skilled, mechanically inclined, and motivated individual to join the Manufacturing Engineering team in production related tasks.

You are a hands-on problem solver capable of communicating effectively with team members both in the prototyping and manufacturing space as well as those from other groups within the company. Attention to detail is essential.

Our prototypes have already delivered more than 1,000 hours of high performance boating and we are gearing up for commercial launch.  Working to support Engineering and Manufacturing you will help launch and scale our first revolutionary product.

This full-time role requires the flexibility to support testing and assembly outside of normal business hours when necessary, but also qualifies for overtime pay.

 

Responsibilities

  • Rework, repair, and modify electronics at the PCB and harness level

  • Create custom development harnesses and electronics assemblies

  • Assist with design and development of test and manufacturing fixtures, including selecting electrical and mechanical components

  • Complete moderately complex assemblies according to engineering drawings, CAD models, and work instruction documents: this will include battery packs, charging systems, throttle control interfaces, and outboard motors

  • Prepare, assemble, and install various mechanical and electrical components including chassis assemblies, wiring, crimping, soldering and cleaning

  • Support testing and debugging of high-voltage battery, outboard, and charging systems

  • Prepare individual cells and other components for battery pack assemblies

  • Continually inspect and maintain various assembly fixtures

  • Operate CNC bonding machine for battery pack production

  • Document learnings from first article assemblies and propose improvements to designs, and processes

  • Perform initial testing and troubleshoot electronics down to the component level to determine root cause and recommend a corrective action to repair any malfunction

  • Create and maintain records of issues and findings in database

  • Contribute to entire warehouse cleanliness, organization and safety

Requirements

  • Ability to solder SMD components down to 0201 size

  • Ability to use hot-air rework stations to replace fine-pitch components, including 0.5mm pitch QFN and BGA components

  • Knowledge of relevant chemicals used on PCB rework

  • Proficiency reading engineering drawings (including schematics, layout, and wiring diagrams) to locate components and pins on PCBA’s and build custom systems

  • Proficiency creating custom harnesses with wire gauges between ½ AWG and 30 AWG

  • Ability to use lab tools including multimeters, oscilloscopes, and power supplies

  • Understanding of electronics concepts including ampacity, isolation, and noise

  • Good communication, organization, and knowledge of office tools, including Google Sheets/Microsoft Excel

Desired experience

  • Familiarity with High Voltage DC systems and battery packs

  • Familiarity in using instruments like multimeter, scope, HiPot, etc.

  • Wire harness assembly experience

  • Experience with thermal adhesives and plastics

  • Proficiency assembling from mechanical & electrical drawings

  • Experience with maintenance documentation

  • Experience with drilling, tapping and utilizing basic shop machinery (manual milling and lathe turning a plus)

  • 5+ years of hands on mechanical and electrical experience in a production environment a plus

  • Experience operating within a controlled-inventory ERP system

  • Experience with CAD (Solidworks and Altium)

  • Soldering and electrical assembly certifications

  • Safety certifications, ERT, CPR
