Director of Clinical Education, Respiratory Care / Faculty

East Central College has an opening for a full-time Director of Clinical Education/Faculty with expertise in Respiratory Care. This is an assignment made to a faculty member teaching in the respiratory care program following the guidelines established by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care and as delegated by the Dean of Health Sciences.  The position has responsibilities for the day-to-day oversight of all clinical aspects of the program. The faculty member’s teaching assignment may be contractually reduced by annual agreement to reflect performance of oversight duties. This is a grant funded position for Strengthening Community College Training Grant (SCC4). 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: (A comparable amount of training, education or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree is preferred plus four (4) year’s work experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two (2) years in clinical respiratory care;
  • Two (2) years’ experience teaching either as an appointed faculty member in a CoARC accredited respiratory care program or as a clinical instructor/ preceptor for student of such programs.
  • Must hold a valid Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT) credential and current unencumbered state license;
  • Community college teaching experience is preferred.

ESSENTIAL TASKS: Employee must be able to perform the following essential functions to the satisfaction of the employee’s supervisor.

Director responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the overall clinical aspects of the respiratory care program activities with the Program Director and Dean of Health Sciences.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in instruction, evaluation, and supervision of students.
  • Coordinating clinical education with didactic education.
  • Coordinate clinical activities – to include maintaining clinical competencies.
  • Provide direct and indirect supervision of students while with students at clinical sites.
  • Develop clinical schedules, syllabi, and orientation information.
  • Oversees the collection, maintenance, and reporting of all documentation required by the clinical sites, including, but not limited to immunization records, criminal background screenings, drug screenings, federal exclusion lists, BLS certification, HIPAA training and compliance, and Standard Precaution training and compliance.
  • Participate in local events related to student recruitment and any other activities related to the respiratory care program and community outreach.
  • Compliance with standards for accreditation Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).
  • Maintain confidential student records in compliance with ECC Board Policy.
  • Maintain clinical and educational competencies in area of instruction.

Faculty responsibilities:

  • Teach thirty (30) semester credit hours (or the equivalent in lab, studio, clinical, etc. hours) each academic year and maintain 7 office hours per week (as approved) for the purpose of assisting students.
  • Conduct all classes in accordance with an established and current course syllabus, submitted following established guidelines each semester, and approved textbook (and/or related instructional material). 
  • Maintain student/attendance/grade/discipline records as required by the College; keep appropriate course/department/program/division records, as required by the College.
  • Assist in conducting program review; plan, develop and implement activities in support of the Higher Learning Commission, or other agency, accreditation guidelines with regard to student academic achievement (assessment) and their success on outcomes (institutional effectiveness).
  • Communicate effectively in a professional, tactful and courteous manner with students, fellow faculty and staff, and the general public.
  • Perform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to established practices, procedures, techniques, and standards in a safe manner and with minimal supervision.
