Respiratory Care Instructor / Lab Site Coordinator

East Central College has an opening for a part-time Instructor for Respiratory Care/Lab Site Coordinator.

Adjunct faculty are responsible for providing effective learning strategies and experiences in the classroom and laboratory for students with diverse interests, abilities and expectations on a per semester basis. 

Lab Site Coordinator duties include being responsible for ensuring that the educational experiences of students at the off campus site are equivalent to those of the main campus program students.

Position located in Columbia, MO. Position is 100% grant funded.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: (A comparable amount of training, education or experience

  • Minimum of an associate’s degree is required; a bachelor’s or master’s degree is preferred plus four (4) year’s work experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two (2) years in clinical respiratory care.
  •  Must hold a valid Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT) credential and current unencumbered state license; community college teaching experience is preferred.

Essential Tasks: (Employee must be able to perform the following essential functions to the satisfaction of the employee’s supervisor.)

  • Teach assigned Lab courses as scheduled each semester, including fall, spring, and summer.
  • Oversee and provide education during “open lab” hours each semester.
  • Ensure that educational experiences of students at the Columbia site are equivalent to those of the main campus in Union.
  • Evaluate student performance in the lab/clinical; meet regularly and confer with students regarding their progress in the lab/clinical aspect of the program.
  • Maintain adequate, ongoing communication with the Program Director (PD) and Director of Clinical Education (DCE).
  • Assist the PD and DCE in conducting program review, maintain assessment records, and review of assessment activities on a yearly basis.
  • Provides oversight and management of the clinical lab functions at the Columbia location in coordination with the PD and DCE to include safety; equipment maintenance, upgrades and acquisition; supply inventory management; orientation for faculty, students, and guests; maintain lab calendar and lab usage data/reports; maintain lab guidelines/policies/procedures.
  • Collaborate with the PD and DCE to obtain new clinical locations as needed.
  • Support all efforts related to the lab and clinical experience for the students.
  • Assist in visiting clinical agencies to ensure positive relationships between the college and agencies.
  • Collaborate with the PD and DCE to provide oversight and mentoring of clinical site preceptors.
  • Perform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to established practices, procedures, and standards in a safe and efficient manner, with minimal supervision.

Adjuncts are hired on a per semester basis and are eligible to teach a maximum of 18 credit hours per academic calendar year and only 9 credit hours per semester.

Adjuncts are paid per credit hour based on level of degree obtained.
