Position Overview:
MTI is growing and advancing and we are welcoming growth-driven, technically advancing, highly skilled and strategic minded Project Engineers to join our team of exceptionally dedicated and interconnected professionals.  A Project Engineer at MTI is responsible for managing projects from the beginning with acceptance of a proposal or purchase order through design, manufacture, installation and final acceptance of custom built Friction Welding Machines and special tooling projects. 

As a Project Engineer at MTI, you will be part of an integrated and collaborative team of engineers and work closely with customers and vendors to ensure timely and profitable projects.  A strong special purpose machinery background and demonstrated experience and knowledge of machine design and manufacture is critical so that interpreting customer specifications can be met. 

Additionally, this position is relied upon to advocate and maintain quality and safety standards. Therefore, polished communication skills are critical in this role so that effective technical support to customers, Service Technicians and machine build and installation personnel is provided.

Job Type: Full-time
                     This is not a remote position.  This position requires your onsite presence.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Utilize technical skills and project management expertise to support the completion of Friction Welding machine projects, field installations, customer inquiries, etc. 
  2. Coordinate the planning, creation, development and administration of specific procedures and documentation for activities such as: Pre-Customer Runoff, Factory Acceptance Test, Site Acceptance Test, Machine Verification and Capability Testing. 
  3. Develop and implement training plans, the development and preparation of Operating and Maintenance Manuals, and the development and execution of Site Installation activities. 
  4. Promote the awareness of project status to the organization and our customers, working with functional leaders to maintain schedules and costs.
  5. Assist with identification and tracking of critical procurements, aid in supplier expediting, communicating with internal and external customers.
  6. Develop, follow, and continually improve processes and procedures related to machine development through installation
  7. Use principle of “Plan, Detect, & Adjust” to guide projects from start to finish.
    1. Budget, Timeline, Procurement, Installation
  8. Help develop strategies and processes to ensure on-time delivery of equipment, cost reduction opportunities and performance improvements.
  9. Mentor and train engineers assigned
  10. May be involved in the Supervision of project installation at Customer’s site
  11. May participate in special-tasks groups

We seek a project engineering expert or aspiring expert who is a focused, detail-oriented team member with high standards and a solid work ethic, coupled with a strong desire to advance her/his technical knowledge.  Exceptional verbal and written communication skills coupled with a motivated self-starter attitude will ensure success in this role.

 

Required Skills or Competencies

  1. Strong communication skills: both verbal and written inclusive of the ability to listen actively, give and receive feedback, be respectful of others’ ideas and using clear, concise speech and appropriate body language.
  2. Must conduct oneself with the highest level of professional and ethical standards.
  3. Good working knowledge of reading mechanical prints and hydraulic/electrical schematics
  4. Understanding of manufacturing environment, including machining processes, workflow, assembly processes, cycle time and quality and delivery expectations.
  5. Must have excellent communication & leadership skills
  6. Computer skills; Microsoft Office products and experience in use of a business system
  7. Made-2-Manage (M2M) preferred
  8. Multi-tasking, time management, and prioritization skills
  9. Ability to read mechanical drawings and understand dimensional tolerances
  10. Desire to learn and grow both professionally and technically inclusive of ability to learn new processes.
  11. Consistently able to work independently without continual supervision and regularly take initiative while working within a team
  12. Keen attention to detail.
  13. Demonstrated commitment to achieving results and meeting goals timely.
  14. Must be eligible to work in the US permanently.
  15. Ability to travel domestically and internationally
  16. Must conduct oneself with the highest level of professional end ethical standards.

Required Education and Experience

  1. At least 2 years’ experience with Machine Tool-type equipment
  2. 3-5 years’ experience with industrial equipment
  3. Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or associated engineering discipline
  4. Project Management training (PMP Certification), preferred
  5. Familiarity with 3D CAD (Computer Aided Design), preferred
