Handyman for commercial office building in the Mission
San Francisco, California - Part Time

We're looking for a personable, professional, independent handyman for our ~20,000 sq ft vintage office building in the Inner Mission. 

This is a part-time gig for an experienced handyman / commercial building maintenance person who lives in SF and has their own truck. 

We love our work, and we love working together.  If you're a capable jack-of-all-trades who shares a love of San Francisco—and clear communication—we'd love to consider your for this position.

You’re a calm, grounded, honest professional handyman who has experience in a variety of building maintenance needs. You're a clear, concise communicator who thrives working in partnership with the property manager. You know how to assess building issues, request authorization when appropriate, and be diplomatic when needed. You’re quick to learn, organized, reliable, consistent and passionate about documenting your work. Most of all, you take pride in getting things done right the first time, all the time.

What You’ll Be Doing 

This is a flexible, part-time, onsite position at a property near York and 18th Street in San Francisco. Hours will fluctuate depending on the operational needs of the building, with some weeks requiring lighter involvement and others requiring more time on site. The role calls for a dependable individual who can be onsite at the property as needed (typically 2-to-3 times per week) to monitor conditions, do maintenance, and perform or coordinate general repairs, preventative maintenance, light construction tasks, and other projects that contribute to the property’s upkeep and presentation. Limited on-call availability is required for occasional urgent issues.

General Maintenance & Repairs

• Perform routine building maintenance and repairs

• Troubleshoot and repair basic plumbing issues (leaks, fixtures, clogged drains)

• Perform light electrical work (fixture replacement, switches, outlets)

• Repair drywall, patching, and painting

• Repair doors, locks, hinges, and hardware

• Repair or assemble furniture and fixtures

• Maintain common areas and shared spaces

Carpentry & Light Construction

• Basic framing and carpentry repairs

• Installation of shelving, cabinetry, and trim

• Minor tenant improvements or modifications

• Installation of hardware, fixtures, and wall systems

Building Systems Support

• Monitor and report issues related to building infrastructure

• Assist with HVAC filter replacement and minor maintenance

• Coordinate with vendors or contractors when specialized work is required

• Support property management with preventative maintenance tasks

Preventative Maintenance

• Conduct routine inspections of building systems and common areas

• Identify maintenance issues early and recommend solutions

• Maintain tools, equipment, and maintenance supplies

• Ensure building remains clean, safe, and operational

Qualifications

Technical Skills

• Proven experience in general building maintenance or handyman services

• Working knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and drywall repair

• Experience using standard hand tools and power tools

• Ability to diagnose and solve common building maintenance issues

• Familiarity with safety practices and building maintenance standards

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

• Comfortable using ladders and working in tight spaces

• Ability to stand, bend, and move throughout the property for extended periods
