Mechanical Build / Fitter

A member of the MTI Machinery Build Team who is responsible for the build of sub-assembly units.  This position is then responsible for the integration of these units onto the overall machine build of Friction Welding Machinery, which also includes the installation and upgrades on-site at the customers location - both within the UK and Worldwide. 

This position is an integral part of our Operations team.  We are seeking a focused, detailed-oriented team member with uncompromisingly high standards and solid work ethic coupled with a strong desire to learn.

Position Summary:

We are searching for a skilled and creative minded team member to fit and assemble complex machine unit assemblies such as Spindles, Clamps, Automation, Lubrication, Pneumatics, Hydraulics, and other mechanical sub-assemblies and the fit / assemble those units within the general assembly of the friction welding machine by using assembly drawings and schematics.  Working in collaboration with the Manufacturing Manager, our Mechanical Build / Fitters ensure that each unit and machine is built "on time": to the machine schedule, "on spec": to the assembly and mechanical specifications of the machine, and "on budget": to the estimated hours for each sub assembly.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  1. Fitting / assembly of various unit assemblies using assembly drawings.
  2. Read detailed Hydraulic, Lubrication & Pneumatic Schematics.
  3. Installation of Hydraulic, Lubrication & Pnuematic systems.
  4. Integrate vendor automation, conveyors, robots and guarding
  5. Communicate any problems with parts to build & engineering department.
  6. Onsite installation / upgrades / break downs of machinery at customers premises UK & Worldwide.
  7. Communicate with customers in a professional and knowledgeable manner.
  8. Inspect parts from a drawing using various inspection equipment.
  9. Operate machine shop equipment such as Miller, Lather, Surface grinder ect.
  10. Continuously reviews/improves engineering processes.
  11. Contributes to MTI’s Upfront planning initiative.
  12. Helps develop strategies and processes to ensure on-time delivery of equipment, cost reduction opportunities and performance improvements.
  13. Promotes cultural values and behavior in others (Respectful, Purposeful, Integrity, Collaborative, Adaptable, Positive Attitude, Excellence, Effective Communication.
  14. Occasionally supports MTI’s Subcontract department with machine breakdowns, machine operations and pre / post machining.
  15. Perform other assignments, as requested by supervisor or manager.

Physical Requirements

  2. Use hands for purposes of keyboarding; hand tools, handle or feel.
  3. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 18Kgs.

Required Education and/or Experience

  1. City and Guild Mechanical Engineering and/or BTECH Mechanical Engineering
  2. Machine Tool Fitter Experience
  3. Bespoke machine building experience, preferred
